Car hire Portugal

Portugal is a country located in Southern Europe. It haves a population of 10,581,949 people and it is using the Euro (€). In Portugal you have to drive on the right direction of the road.

To hire a car in Portugal you need a driving license, a valid credit card and an ID or a passport. Car hire companies will need an International Driving Permit for driving licenses that were issued outside countries of EU. Drivers should always give priority to pedestrians and to vehicles of public transport, to vehicles coming from the right and to vehicles already in the roundabout. All passengers must wear seatbelts and lights are advised to be on at all times. Portuguese drivers are known to be rather aggressive and streets have traffic. It is illegal to park on red or yellow zones, or blue zones with a red X on them. The parking is allowed at blue zones and there are parking lots in the city centres and at the suburbs. The highways have tolls with booths where you can pay in cash or with major credit and debit cards. There are green lanes where vehicles with prepaid system enter. If by mistake you pass through the green lane you have 48 hours to go and pay to the company Via Verde the toll fee without a fine. All types of fuel are available and you should know the type your car needs to avoid a possible engine damage.
