Car rental Austria

Austria is a country located in Central Europe. It haves a population of 8,414,638 people and it is using the Euro (€). In Austria you have to drive on the right direction of the road.

Car rental companies require a driving license, a valid credit card and identity card. Renting a car for a couple of days in Austria and in its countryside is a good way since driving in Austria is normally quite pleasant as the country is small and the roads are in good condition, not congested and offer fantastic scenery. Parking in cities is subject to fee on work days and usually those parking zones are marked by blue lines on the street. So be careful not to park in places that is not permitted and pay the fee because fines are very expensive. When travelling on Austrian motorways, if your vehicle is under 3500 kg in weight, you have to buy a Vignette toll pass in advance, which can be purchased at any petrol station or at the border. There are three types of Vignette, for 10 days, 2 months or 1 year. Vehicles heavier than 3500 kg must instead purchase a GO-Box, a transponder which deducts tolls as the vehicles travel along the Autobahn or Schnellstraße. The law requires all passengers to wear seat belts at all times. Children under 14 years of age have to use a child safety seat until they are at least approximately 1.5 metres tall. All grades of unleaded petrol, diesel and LPG are available as well as lead substitute additive. If you reach an intersection and there is no traffic signs, always give way to the vehicle to your right.
