Car rental South Africa

South Africa is a country located in Southern Africa. It haves a population of 48,810,427 people and it is using the South African rand (R). In South Africa you have to drive on the left direction of the road.

Rental car companies in South Africa will need a driving license, a passport and a valid credit card to hire you a car. If the driving license is not in one of the 11 official languages of South Africa (i.e. English), you may need an International Driving Permit. Sometimes is best to have it with you anyway. When driving, be alert for animals and people crossing the road, even the highways and hide valuables and don't leave them in plain sight. All passengers must wear seatbelts and talking on the mobile phone is forbidden. Sometimes police officers may ask you for some kind of paper that you do not need to have. Stay calm and state the fact that this paper in not needed and don't bribe them. When you stop at a red light keep your distance from the car in front of you so that you can have room to go around it in case of an attempt of car-jacking, a common practice in the suburbs of Johannesburg. There are tolls where you can pay in cash and gas stations with unleaded gasoline and diesel, most of them open for 24 hours where the attendants will clean your windshield and check the oil in the engine and it is common to give a tip. From 2011 almost all gas stations accept major credit cards as well.
